Instant Pot Shredded Chicken | IP Chicken Breast and Thighs Recipe (1)

Okay Instant Pot fans get ready!Goodbye slow cooker shredded chicken breast. Hello Instant Pot Easy Shredded Chicken.

I love you too but I’ve found someone new. Seriously since we bought the Instant PotInstant Pot Shredded Chicken | IP Chicken Breast and Thighs Recipe (2), I haven’t even touched the slow cooker. It’s collecting dust and it will likely make it’s way to the giveaway pile that is stacking up in my garage soon.

I’ve been all about minimalism since the end of last year because stuff… it collects and it’s time to purge and only keep the things that you truly love and use and sparks joy #mariekondostyle. All the old clutter just makes life more messy and difficult.

So the garage…

Yeah, it needs a royal clean out because it’s been receiving the brunt of my cleaning sprees. Everything that is set to giveaway gets piled in the garage and then I don’t want to put it in my car because lizards and snakes and heavens knows what else could be in there.

We live in an old house so the garage is, well… not 100%. I’m going to have to call a service to come and pick up our stuff or find someone with a truck.

Do ya’ll have this problem too?

Instant Pot Shredded Chicken | IP Chicken Breast and Thighs Recipe (4)

At least I don’t have to look at the clutter until I go into the garage to get our bikes or the stroller or P’s outdoor toys. Honey, if you’re reading this. Garage clean out is happening… this weekend.

Who’s pumped.

Any takers for garage clean out?

Crickets…

FAQs

Do chicken thighs and breasts take the same time to cook? ›

Amazingly, all the chicken pieces wind up cooking at about the same rate — dark meat pieces cook a bit slower than white meat, but the thickness of the breast meat means everything finishes around the same time.

Do chicken breast take longer to cook than thighs? ›

First, chicken breasts cook faster than thighs and are easier to overcook. For example, if a recipe suggests cooking thighs for 30 minutes, the breasts may only take 20. The best way to avoid under or overcooking your chicken breasts is to test them with a meat thermometer.

Are chicken thighs better than breasts in Instant Pot? ›

Chicken thighs are much more forgiving than breasts.

While all cuts of chicken are fair game for the Instant Pot, thighs are the most forgiving. Because chicken breast is so lean, just a couple of extra minutes of cook time turns them from juicy to overcooked and dry.

Why is my Instant Pot shredded chicken rubbery? ›

Why does chicken get rubbery in Instant Pot? The Instant Pot utilized pressure cooking, which is an ulrta quick cooking method. This makes it very easy to overcook chicken. Rubbery chicken is overcooked.

How do you make sure your chicken breasts and legs are cooked properly? ›

Poke the Meat

This method applies to chicken specifically. For properly cooked chicken, if you cut into it and the juices run clear, then the chicken is fully cooked. If the juices are red or have a pinkish color, your chicken may need to be cooked a bit longer.

What are the correct temperatures to cook chicken breasts and thighs? ›

The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) recommends cooking whole chicken and parts of chicken (like the breasts, legs, thighs, wings and giblets), ground poultry, and stuffing to 165 degrees F.

Should chicken thighs be cooked fast or slow? ›

The key is to cook them slowly.

(That discovery is what led to the supple meat in our Mahogany Chicken Thighs and Grilled Spice-Rubbed Chicken Drumsticks recipes.)

Which part of the chicken takes the longest to cook? ›

Legs and thighs are the pieces that take the longest to cook by themselves. Weight: 4 to 8 oz. Cooking time: 10 to 15 minutes per side if grilled; 40 to 50 minutes if roasted or simmered in a liquid.

Which is more tender chicken breast or thigh? ›

Chicken thighs are a fattier cut of meat, which means they're going to have a more intense, rich flavor than the white meat breasts. Being more tender, thighs cook easily and go well with a variety of other ingredients. They can be grilled, roasted, baked, boiled, fried, etc.

Can you overcook chicken in an Instant Pot? ›

An electric pressure cooker is pretty forgiving when it comes to cooking chicken, since it is cooked using steam pressure. I wouldn't cook chicken longer than 20 minutes at high pressure, or it could start to dry out, but don't worry if you forget about it for a few minutes after the pressure cooking cycle is complete.

How do you keep chicken from getting tough in Instant Pot? ›

The key to getting perfectly juicy boneless chicken breasts is to cook them on a trivet, above the liquid. I find that this results in a better texture than cooking them on the bottom of the pot. I also think their texture is best when you quickly release the pressure, rather than letting it naturally release.

Should chicken be submerged in an Instant Pot? ›

Note: You can submerge your chicken directly in the cooking liquid, especially if you want to make chicken stock. However, the steamer basket method ensures crispy skin and won't wash away the seasoning. Individual chicken pieces can be cooked in much the same way as a whole chicken.

Does chicken get more tender the longer you cook it in an Instant Pot? ›

This dinner staple cooks up perfectly every time in the Instant Pot. You can aim for firm but juicy chicken for cubing, or let it cook a little bit longer for tender shredded chicken.

Why is my chicken tough after pressure cooking? ›

Without watching over your shoulder in your kitchen, the most likely reason is overcooking. Pressure cookers are powerful, and it can be a fine line between perfectly done vs. too much. Longer cook times squeeze more moisture out of the tissue, leaving it drier and tougher.

Is there a big difference between chicken breast and chicken thighs? ›

Chicken breast is significantly leaner than chicken thighs. According to the Australian Chicken Meat Federation, 100g of skinless chicken breast contains 22.3g of protein and 1.6g of fat. Compare this to 100g of skinless chicken thigh, which contains 17.5g of protein and 8.4g of fat.

How long does a chicken breast take to cook? ›

chicken breast at 350°F (177˚C) for 25 to 30 minutes. Use a meat thermometer to check that the internal temperature is 165˚F (74˚C).

Is it better to bake chicken at 350 or 400? ›

The best way to bake chicken breasts is the oven is at 400 F. Simply drizzle some olive oil in the bottom of your baking dish, season your skinless chicken breasts generously and add a pat of butter on top of each chicken breast.
