If you are nursing your baby, you are for sure looking for all kinds of ways to increase your milk supply.

I know that I was always on the hunt for tips and tricks.

I nursed both my babies, both for over a year and it was super stressful at times, especially the first one.

I will tell you that the number one thing you can do to increase milk supply, is feed on demand as much as possible the first month.

Try not to pump unless you really have to.

The pump is never as good or better than the baby, and at the beginning you want to show your body that it needs to produce A LOT OF MILK.

I made that mistake the first time around and I struggled. I started pumping the first week and I struggled the rest of the year 🙁

The second time around I purely fed on the breast for 4 weeks and fed as much as possible. It was tough on sleep but it showed my body that I needed to produce a lot of milk and I was actually able to stop pumping at around 6 months and had enough milk for 12 months.

While lactation recipes like these are great and they help, it’s a supplement. It’s going to aid or help in production, but it won’t beat your body actually supplying what it needs.

I also took milk thistle and fenugreek, which worked well for me.

The great thing about lactation recipes like this is that it can only help.

Lactation recipes are recipes that have added ingredients that are galactagogues or foods that may help increase milk supply.

While its not 100% proven that it does, a lot of women see great results from adding more of these foods in their diet.

The good thing, is that recipes like this one are also just super healthy recipes that are good nutrition for you and your baby so whether they help increase supply or not, they are good for you and baby so why not try.

I remember that I was open to trying anything that would help increase my liquid gold.

This recipe is super yummy and if you are not nursing or stop breastfeeding, you can just omit the Brewers Yeast and enjoy it as a breakfast or snack.

And if you can totally taste the Brewers yeast in the recipe and dont like it, you can try the recipe again and omit it. There’s other galactogogues in the recipe.

According to the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine, a galactagogue is defined as “medicationsor substances used to initiate, maintain or increase milk supply”.

Here are a few:

  • Oats
  • Flax Seeds
  • Sesame Seeds
  • Fennel
  • Almonds
  • Pumpkin
  • Chickpeas

Protein: this is something not talked about enough, but protein helps support milk production. As well as its important for the proper growth and development of baby. So, make sure to eat enough protein.

This is why I add mPower protein powder to every single recipe I can.

It’s hard to eat more chicken, fish, turkey… ugh.

So, adding a few scoops of protein powder everywhere you can, is a great idea.
