Even beyond the unique facilities Brearley has to offer, I will always love 610 as it has felt like my second home for so many years. Some of the French teachers have a fixed mindset and can be very harsh labeling students. French teachers could have better training on the growth mindset to encourage growth and development of students confidence. This is a major cultural difference as opposed to American teachers. The biggest negative in my opinion is the color system based on competencies for grading of middle schoolers. This system was designed to stop competition among students comparing number grades (0-20) so they focus on improving specific competencies. This has backfired: now students still compare colors, are very confused with competencies and dont know where they are in their academic achievements. Competencies together with number grades would be much better in preparation for HS and college.... If the English taught more grammar/reading comprehension/inference in a rigorous way, students would be better prepared for the SAT/ACT and graduate free from woke ideology.
