Oreo Taste Test Challenge (2024)

Think you know Oreos? Then put your tastebuds to the test with this family-friendly activity, the Great Oreo Taste Test Challenge.

You know the song…now sing along: “Ice cold milk and an Oreo cookie. They forever go together…” And this fun family activity is sure to bring your family together as they face down the Great Oreo Taste Test Challenge! It’s so much fun even the adults will be begging to get in on the action, and it’s an experience your family will long remember.

Want to score major points with your next family activity? The Oreo Taste Test Challenge is a fun and easy way to get create lots of laughs and memories. All it requires is several packages of different Oreo varieties, the printable Oreo Challenge recording sheet, and a hungry crowd. How’s that for simple?

We used 12 different kinds of Oreos for our fun family competition, but the number and variety are up to you. In fact, did you know Nabisco makes more than 25 different flavors of Oreos! Some of those flavors are seasonal, and apparently, they release new limited editions every year.

I didn’t have any trouble finding the 12 varieties from at my local grocery store. However, you can check-in at oreo.com for the latest in the sandwich cookie world. Right now Lady Gaga Oreos are hot stuff, as are the new S’mores and Brookie-O’s flavors.

We didn’t use any of those for our family Oreo challenge, and I was disappointed that I couldn’t find the new Strawberry Frosted Donut or Red Velvet Cake flavors. But, it turned out that it didn’t make a bit of difference. We had a blast taste testing what we had!

How Does the Oreo Challenge Work?

To host your own Oreo Challenge, start by purchasing a variety of Oreos and then download the free Oreo Challenge score sheet. (I’ve left some blank spaces for you to write in whatever exotic flavors you can find.) You will also need the following supplies.

  • Oreo Cookies
  • Printable Oreo Challenge Score Cards
  • Blindfold – 1 for each participant
  • Pencil
  • Paper Bag

Before you start it’s a good idea to number the packages in whatever order you plan to dole them out. Make a score sheet “key” just to ensure everything stays in order.

To begin the family activity, hand each player a score sheet, a pencil, a blindfold, and a paper bag.

Explain that while they are blindfolded, they are going to be handed the first cookie to taste. Place any leftovers in the paper bag so there are no visual clues. At that point, they should remove their blindfolds and put a #1 by their guess.

Proceed to the next flavor by having participants replace their blindfolds. Announce that this is cookie #2. Place the second cookie in everyone’s hand and continue repeating the same process. We found it helpful to give each kid a glass of water so they could drink a little between cookie flavors and “cleanse their palettes.”

At the end of the competition, reveal the flavors that corresponded with each number and have the players check their own score sheets. Although identifying distinctive flavors like lemon, hazelnut and java may seem pretty straightforward, we found that the task was actually pretty challenging. Most of our kiddos only got half of them right. Even the adults, who weren’t technically participants, found picking the right flavor a little challenging.

The Big Finale

After the score, sheets had been checked, and winners declared we gave everyone a big glass of milk and let them either finish the cookies left in their paper bags or choose 4 cookies they liked the best.

Everyone loved this great family activity! We laughed, and talked, and teased and just generally came together.

We had so much fun I think I’m going to repeat it with some of my kid’s friends. I also think it would be a super fun activity for a grown-up party. Let’s face it…how often do you get to chow down on a dozen of the world’s most iconic cookies, test out your taste bud prowess, and hang out with the best people in the world?! A perfect party challenge!
