Oscar-Winning Actress Joins Gothic Horror Movie That Reunites 2 Major Game of Thrones Stars (2024)

Oscar-winner Marcia Gay Harden is set to join a new gothic horror movie that will reunite two of Game of Thrones' biggest stars.

Per Deadline, Harden will join Sophie Turner and Kit Harington in a new horror film titled The Dreadful. The film also stars Laurence O’Fuarain (The Gentlemen) and Jonathan Howard (Thor: The Dark World). The film will reportedly be set during the War of the Roses, a period in which several civil wars were waged for control of the English throne. The Dreadful follows "Anne (Turner) and her sinister mother-in-law Morwen (Harden), who live a solitary, harsh life on the outskirts of society. But when a man (Harington) from their past returns, he sets off a sequence of horrifying events that become a turning point for Anne."

Natasha Kermani writes and directs The Dreadful, which is produced by Turner, Luke Daniels, Patrick Muldoon, Patrick Hibler, Lucas Jarach, and Greg Lauritano. Kermani is best known for directing a segment of the Shudder original anthology film, V/H/S/85. Harden won an Academy Award for her performance in Pollack, and has received four Emmy nominations for her role in Apple's hit series The Morning Show. Harden was also nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in the harrowing drama, Mystic River.

What's Next for Kit Harington and Sophie Turner

After Game of Thrones ended its incredible run, initially one of the plans was to launch a spinoff series centered around fan-favorite Jon Snow (Harington), but after many years the project was eventually shelved. However, according to a prior report, HBO CEO Casey Bloys hasn't completely abandoned the idea of using Jon Snow in the future, but for now, Harington has no plans to return to the Game of Thrones universe any time soon. Harington can currently be seen in the HBO original series, Industry, which was recently picked up for its fourth season.

Turner, who broke onto the scene with her star-turning performance as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, is set to star as the iconic Lara Croft in Amazon's Tomb Raider series. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, creator of Fleabag, will serve as executive producer and writer for the series. Turner will be the third actress to portray Lara Croft in live-action, following Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.

There is no official release date for The Dreadful.
