It was great learning about myself, especially as a black man. They have quality education. I wish they would be a little more selective about the backgrounds of children and families. It’s starting to feel like any local public school in the bronx which isn’t great. The athletic department needs an overhaul. No support for good athletes trying to play in college. They teach you all the things you need to know at ur level. They have lower classes and higher classes. I’m a student that goes there and every quarter I get high honor roll. Teachers help you and support you in the all the ways they could. There is even extra support classes for students who need extra help during school time, and they’re all for free! Give kids a lot of freedom in school. Teacher also engage with students, they’re not only their teacher but also friends and role model. 15. #44 Best Public Middle Schools in New YorkJ.H.S. 67 - Louis PasteurNew York City Geographic District No. 26, NY·6-8·Rating 4.18 out of 5 11 reviewsSenior: I'm currently a senior at J.H.S. 67 (Louis Pasteur) and I really love going to this school. In 7th or 8th grade regents classes the academics are rigorous. I'm so glad that I get to graduate this year because it is the 67th anniversary and we are number 1 in ELA and math proficiency in District 26. Getting into 7th grade regents class is difficult because of the competitive averages of 6th grade. Most people join regents classes in 8th grade based on their averages from 7th grade and it's really helpful to get a headstart for high school. However, in 6th and 7th grade for me, honestly, the academics weren't helpful at all and it was like repeating the same curriculums but slightly made more difficult and the teachers were super chill as in barely gave any work and tests/quizzes were extremely easy. Making friends was/is a huge part of my middle school life and there are always some people you don't want to be involved with and some you do.... 16. #45 Best Public Middle Schools in New YorkNYC Lab Middle School for Collaborative StudiesNew York City Geographic District No. 2, NY·6-8·Rating 3.95 out of 5 22 reviewsMiddle school student: I’m currently an 8th grader at Lab MS (class of ‘24) and I have LOVED my experience at this school. 1) TeachersThe majority of the teachers at Lab are kind, thoughtful people who want their students to learn, even if they can’t always help them as much as they’d like. Most students develop bonds with their teachers, many coming back to visit after they have graduated to reconnect with them. The teachers, especially in the Humanities department, are really knowledgeable about their subject and give engaging lessons.2) AcademicsLab MS is historically known for being rigorous, which it is. I have received a great education here and I’m so glad that I was able to take 2 Regents classes this year (Living Environment and Algebra I) which will prepare me for Bronx Science. 3) StudentsI have found that most of the kids here are accepting and kind, allowing everyone to “find their people”. 19. #48 Best Public Middle Schools in New YorkEast Side Middle SchoolNew York City Geographic District No. 2, NY·6-8·Rating 4.22 out of 5 9 reviewsParent: ESMS is a supportive place for parents and students and is academically challenging. With a wonderful reputation, the school remains a top choice for middle school in District 2, Manhattan. The PTA is a committed group of parents who put in the time to ensure plenty of great activities and raises funds to support them. The now retired Principal was a wonderful resource and committed administrator. Assistant Principal is wonderful and engaged. Some sport coaches allow too much aggression from the kids in competition. The current lottery system for high school from the NYC DOE seems to put ESMS at a disadvantage with access to top high schools due to harder academics and grading, unfortunately. This should be changed so that more ESMS children, who excel at the state test level, have access to top education after middle school....
