Across Vermont, thousands of residents were left without power on Wednesday, with some anticipated to have outages until the end of this week.From Jericho to Cambridge, dozens of trees were lying on power lines as residents had generators running, and repairs were underway to restore power to customers."We're working really hard," said Rebecca Towne, CEO of Vermont Electric Cooperative. "We're trying to get people on as fast as we can because we know power is important to their lives."Crews from across the state worked to finish repairs as fast as possible with the help of mutual aid."We have some utility crews in from other utilities in Vermont who weren't ahead and a bunch from Massachusetts who sent some folks up to help us, so we're really thankful for the mutual aid system," said Towne.In Pleasant Valley, residents described a "funnel" of wind that blew through Wednesday morning.It destroyed barns, downed trees, and impacted both houses and powerlines.One home had a tree on top of the house and through a front window. The family who lived there said they were all safe, and are beginning repairs without power in the home. They aren't alone in having to live off of a generator this week."I think we're probably going through to Friday for some of the toughest ones just because we're seeing a few that are going to take a really long time," said Towne.In Cambridge, the covered bridge was missing half of its roof on Wednesday.Seven utility poles were being repaired by multiple companies in Cambridge as well.Plus, the Cambridge Village Market gave away meat that went unrefrigerated during the day as the store waited for the lights to come back on.The community is again encouraging neighbors to help fellow residents stay safe."It's really just making sure that people have what they need — to be able to have flashlights, have emergency sources of water, and then be able to access someplace warm," said Towne.Towne said VEC is working with Vermont Emergency Management to determine what additional resources are needed and how to get them to those who need it.A current list of VEC outages can be found here.A current list of power outages in Vermont can be found here.
